Favorite Actress:
(2) Kate Winslet is the go to girl now a days when you want a classy, sophisticated, woman who can pull off a killer accent. She is the sophisticated actress who brings true depth to a character and she is well respected although not well compensated in Hollywood. She has been nominated for two Oscars yet have not won one yet. Although that might change with two roles she has done having Oscar buzz around them. My favorite role she has portrayed was a role she was nominated for already. That of Madeline Le Clerc, in “Quills”. “Quills” is an amazingly intriguing movie full of passion, life, desire, and sexual oppression and liberation. Madeline represents the idealistic youth who longs for something more then what life is handed her and seeks out something exciting and raunchy to spice up her everyday life as a linens cleaner in a mental hospital. She finds this excitement in Geoffrey Rushes character the Marquis, whose sexual novels about real life torrid exploits intrigues her and also cause her much trouble. I don’t want to talk much more about the movie for those who haven’t seen it, but Kate’s acting is just phenomenal. Other roles she has done include “Titanic”, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, “The Life of David Gale”, “Finding Neverland”, “Iris”, “Hamlet”, and “A Kid in King Arthur’s Castle”.
(3) Natalie Portman might be young but she’s got the acting chops to stand next to the greatest Hollywood actresses of all time. She plays roles that are vivacious, heartwarming, intelligent, and ambitious and she does them to perfection. My favorite role of hers is Sam in “Garden State”. Zach Braff the writer, director, and star of the movie created this role for her and it’s evident why. She plays this quiet and reserved girl who is full of secrets, adventure, and by looking at her you feel rejuvenated and life is just brought back to Zach’s character in a way he never thought he’d find. She’s this perfect goofball yet completely intellectual super girl who can do it all. I may be exaggerating a bit but her acting and that movie are just amazing so I’m allowing myself to carry on. Other then that she is in real life a Harvard Graduate who also throws New Years Eve parties with Britney Spears. She has an amazing presence and drive that will carry her as far in life as she wants to go. Other movies she has done include “Closer”, “Cold Mountain”, “Beautiful Girls”, “Where The Heart Is”, “Anywhere But Here” and “Star Wars Episodes 1-3”.
(4) Julia Roberts is a talent of immeasurable parallel. She manages to take rather horrible sappy scripts that by reading it alone no guy would ever want to be dragged to see. But somehow once you know Julia is in it you put that behind you and end up liking her character and at least tolerating her movie. My favorite part she’s done is either her Oscar winning role in “Erin Brockovich” or the quintessential call girl hottie with a heart in “Pretty Woman”. Both roles show a dimension that very few actresses are able to carry off that extremely gorgeous, very smart, cunning, emotionally troubled, but a drive that things can change for the better and will because she can make it. Her personality off screen is another aspect I find extremely appealing. Even with all the success in the world, she still manages to seem like a kind hearted, genuine, caring person, and that smile of hers, what can’t be said about it. Other movies she has appeared in include “The Mexican”, “Oceans 11”, “Oceans 12”, “Marry Riley”, “Hook”, “Steel Magnolias”, “My Best Friends Wedding”, “Stepmom”, and “Closer”
(5) Michelle Pfeiffer might not always pick the best movie roles (“Grease 2”, “Married to the Mob”, but when she does watch out. She has such a captivating presence on film, the aura surrounding her seems to change with every character she portrays and it’s a great thing to watch. My favorite role of hers has to be Claire Spencer in “What Lies Beneath” the true culmination of her entire persona being portrayed in a terrific story. Although, watching her as Selina Cyle/ Catwoman in Batman Returns is always a thrill as well. Some other movies she has been in include “Witches of Eastwick”, “I am Sam” “Dangerous Minds”, “Scarface” and “Frankie and Johnny”.
(2) Jim Carrey- Way back in the days of In Living Color as Fire Marshall Bill he used to make me laugh my head off. In “Earth Girls are Easy” (he’s the only thing that makes that movie bearable to watch) “The Mask” (come on who didn’t love the Cuban beat dance thing) and “Ace Ventura” (Dr. Doolittle has nothing on him) he pulled off the hard transition of television star to acting star and maintained his charm and humor. In “Batman Forever” he made the Riddler the coolest movie villain ever, “Man on the Moon”, and “The Truman Show” allowed him to show off his under appreciated serious side, and roles in “Me Myself and Irene”, “The Grinch” and “Bruce Almighty” prove he still knows the exact way to make everyone laugh. My favorite film of his is “Liar Liar” as Fletcher Reede. I’ve caught myself doing the claw several times, and still think about him with pen covered on his face when I see a blue pen, and if you ever get pulled over I find it hard that you wouldn’t have the slightest inclination to repeat his infamous reasons for being pulled over in that movie. Jim Carrey an excellent comedian, a great dramatic actor, and a man who can do no wrong, he’s Jim Carrey watch one of his movies and laugh your ass off!
(3)Johnny Depp is the actor everyone in Hollywood secretly wants to be like but is to afraid to attempt. Johnny Depp picks the roles that are challenging and nobody else dares to try and makes phenomenal successes out of them. My favorite role he’s done has to be as Mort Rainey in “Secret Window”. “Secret Window” is a phenomenal film which is very Stephen King esc with a writer looking at his life and trying to figure out why a man has appeared claiming he has stole one of his stories and has begun to attack him. Johnny Depp is the coolest actor of our generation and his talent is on level with his daring roles. Other notable performances take place in the movies “Crybaby”, “Edward Scissorhands”, “ Pirates of The Caribbean”, “Finding Neverland”, “Sleepy Hollow”, “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Donnie Brassco”.
(4) Jaquin Pheonix- In movies like “Gladiator”, “The Village” and “Signs” he just gives this cool vibe of, I’m deep but I’ll kick your ass if I need too, that’s pretty damn cool. Most actors if they're lucky can pull off the meathead, the ass, or the sensitive guy the girls love. Jaquin on the other hand manages to do all these traits at the same time; it’s impressive to watch. In “Quills” one of my favorite movies he plays The Abbe du Coulmier, a priest, who must deal with the sexual raunchiness of the Marquis de Sade and his own sexual frustration for Madeline Le Clerc. His struggle with his love for Madeline and perplexity and her needs to help the Maruis de Sade boggle his mind and this emotion comes across perfectly through Phoenix’s acting. Also without ruining the movie there’s one scene at the end of the movie where it must have been difficult for Jaquin to film and to do truthfully without it seeming for shock value, but you really understand why the character is doing what he does and what emotions are running through his head in the mix of it. Jaquin Pheonix and amazing actor and great talent, with one of the coolest and most hard to spell names in Hollywood.
(5)Vincent Price is the classic actor from all the greatest campy horror villains of the early century. He even does the creepy dialogue in Michael Jackson’s phenomenal smash hit “Thriller”. My favorite performance of his has to be one of his last just because he was still so amazing at his elderly age and he was also a member in one of my favorite films. He played The Inventor in “Edward Scissor Hands”, a character with such enduring sensitivity yet haunting mystique. Other roles of his include the original versions of “The House on Haunted Hill” and “The Fly” as well as countless other horror films and voices on such classics as The Scooby Doo show.

2)Mad Tv- Forget Saturday Night Live and seeing In Living Color is gone if you want raunchy skit humor go to Mad Tv. They are less politicaly motivated then SNL which make them care more about making laughs. They do the best celebrity parodies ever and allow us to laugh at everything we want to. Its a human version of Family Guy and South Park but it's great charcters like Stewie, Ms Swan, Loraine, Dot, anyone Mo Collins or Nicole Sullivan ever played make it enjoyable to watch whenever its on.
3)Scrubs- Scrubs is a great ass show, it’s one of the funniest things put on air in a while. It was nice to see a hospital show be humorous after so many shows trying to be the next ER. It was a great change but might not have worked but luckily the cast and writers melded together perfectly. It’s very interesting to see interns who are at that age of when they think they have life figured out but keep making mistakes despite there preparation deal with the outcomes. It’s a really funny show and I wish I had more time to keep watching it but hey there’s always dvds right?
